Halloween is a great opportunity for kids to unleash their creative side, and to use some household items in the process! Crafting with household items is a great way to start kids on the path of reuse and recycle! It’s a win-win!
1. DIY Halloween window stickers
If you don’t mind spending a little time and soap removing them again, Halloween window stickers are fun and easy, simply use some tissue paper and dilute some PVA glue with a little water, paint on the glue mix and press your tissue paper creation onto the window!
2. Spooky Candle Holders
Grab an old jam jar and jazz it up with some paper and paints! Create a spooky Halloween face, cut out the parts you want to glow and adhere it to the outside of the jar. You can use simple PVA glue to stick it, or wrap it around and Sellotape the edges. Want a more colourful jar? Glue on some coloured tissue paper to the outside and cut shapes from black card and glue that on also! Don’t forget to use caution with tealights as they can get warm, place the jar on a suitable surface once the candle is lit.
3. Halloween Lanterns
Got some old paper lampshades hanging around from when they were the must-have lounge accessory? Draw on some bats, or paint it green, add some cobwebs with a marker pen and hang it over an outdoor light and you’ve got yourself a spooky lantern!
4. Haunted House
Got one of those fast-food kid’s meal paper boxes hanging around the one with the big M? Make it into a haunted house, simply use some paint or tissue paper to create a base colour, cut out some windows and a door, you can use white paint to add some cobwebs or ghost! Maybe cut out a spooky tree and stick it on the edge. If you want to get super crafty, stick some white tissue paper to the inside of the windows and pop a battery-operated candle inside for a spooky glow!
5. Leaf Spooks!
Send the children on a mission to forage some large, dried leaves, paint them white or your preferred ghoulish colour and let them dry. Cut them into spooky shapes and draw on some faces with permanent marker and you’ve got yourself some spooky table decorations, or you can string them together to create a low-cost Halloween garland!
